Christmas in Norfolk

If you love Christmas, then quite honestly Norfolk is the place to be. The magic of Christmas fills the whole region with twinkling lights, Christmas shows, journeys with Santa and unique shopping opportunities. Alongside this you are situated in a region of natural beauty, coastline walks, national trust parks and much more. Here are just a few special moments you could grab in season 2014 if you came to stay in one of Norfolk’s Hidden gems. http://www.norfolkshiddengems.co.uk

From Nan’s cottage, Park Farm Barn and Swanton cottage, it’s a short drive to the beautiful Holkham Hall. This Christmas they have a weekend event on the 6/7th December 10am-5pm. Check out http://www.holkham.co.uk for more details. They also have, starting this season, a guided deer walk on the Holkham estate. They have publicised a 12pm start on the 7th & 14th of December. Again I would recommend checking the website nearer the time for the exact details.

Another place you really need to go if you just love the Christmas season is to Thursford, not only do they have the largest Christmas show in England “The Christmas Spectacular” on from Nov 8th till Dec 23rd but they also host a magical journey with Santa, a must for any young family. This is closest to Nan’s cottage, Park Farm Barn & Swanton Cottage. http://www.thursford.com

The delightful Cromer pier also has a Christmas show, it’s in it’s 10th year, brilliant entertainment for all the family. This is on from Nov 29th – Dec 27th. Call 01263 512495 for ticket information.

If you fancy a stay on the broads, Josie’s cottage (3bed), Lilly’s cottage (2 bed) or The Moorings are only a short drive from the wonderful city of Norwich. Theatre royal Norwich is performing Peter Pan panto, box office 01603 630000. I also think a visit to Norwich Cathedral is rather special at this time of year. Obviously shopping in the city for Christmas is unrivalled in Norfolk, with a mixture of high street and independent boutique style shops. You are bound to find a present for everyone. Also don’t forget it would make a brilliant place to hit the sales.

A particular favourite visit of mine is the picturesque, post card pretty, Holt, dressed up for Christmas, it’s just spectacular. The shopping is fabulous and the coffee shops scrumptious. You just have to go and have a late afternoon tea, so you can experience the lights. This is close to the head quarters of Norfolk’s hidden gems and visited regularly!
